A nofollow link contains an HTML attribute instructing search engines not to transfer authority or ranking power to the linked page. Unlike standard (dofollow) links, these connections include rel=’nofollow’ in their code. While originally created to combat comment spam, nofollow links now serve various purposes including identifying paid links, user-generated content, and non-endorsed resources while allowing webmasters to control how link equity flows from their sites.
