4 Ways to Be Smarter with Your Social Media [VIDEO]
A lot of business owners tells us they’re frustrated with the way their social media is working for them. They feel like they are wasting time and money and not getting any results. Very often this is because of the approach and the mindset that they have around social media.
Here are fours ways that you can think and work smarter when using social media for your business.
1) Go Where Your Customers Are
A lot of business will go to trade shows to share their products or services because they know that their ideal customer will be there at those events. However, when it comes to social media, they do the opposite. They go to the platforms that interest them and forget about what their customers might want and need when they are online.
Think about where your customers congregate. Do they go to Instagram, LinkedIn or Facebook? Or are they visiting specific forums where they look for information? Go where your customers are, and you are more likely to get their attention.
2) Become the Go-To Person in Your Industry
If you spend some time online, you will notice that certain people position themselves as an expert in a specific field or industry. You see this a lot on forums or websites like Quora. If you answer questions and offer industry insights, very often people will start to link to your posts. More than this, they will begin to mentally connect a specific type of business or service to you. They will think of you as the go-to person for that type of business.
Once they link you and the business in their minds, they will always come to you first when they need what you offer.
3) Try Everything, so you Know How to use it
Some business owners will resist testing out new business platforms because they don’t want to invest the time it takes to learn and use them. You can see this with platforms like Instagram and Twitter primarily.
The reality is that everyone advances with new technology. This means you have you to as well. Email and text messages and social media has been around less than 25 years, but we have all adapted it into our lives and work. As platforms change and evolve, you must make sure to stay up to date.
Think of it like knowing your way around a city. If you know how to drive and where to go, it is much easier than trying to figure it out on the fly. Take the time to learn all the platforms and then use the ones that are most effective for your business.
4) Track your success over longer periods
A lot of business owners get very frustrated with their results, but they have only been working on their social media for a few months. It’s easy to post content and update your social media for a month or two, but then you’ll get frustrated because you do not see results. However, if you track the same results over 2 or 3 years, you will notice that consistency pays off. The most successful companies take their time to build a social media following. They take two to five years, and they don’t expect results immediately, but they do create long-term engagement.
Remember that everyone starts at zero when it comes to social media. It takes time, and it takes time, consistency and patience to build a social media following.
