How To Avoid Common Social Media Mistakes

Posting to sites like Twitter or Facebook may be a bit breezier for you now, but are you making some of the most common social media mistakes?

Here are 5 ways to avoid some of the most frequent mistakes for your Orange County social media marketing:

1)    Proofread Posts

Sure, there are only so many hours in a day and you want to engage with others as much as you can, but taking a moment to proofread your writing is a MUST! Whether you just wrote a blog article or you are commenting through social media, proofreading will allow you to catch any small mistakes or typos you may have made. Taking the time to do this will, in turn, give your business a more professional appearance.

2)    Avoid Repeating Information

If your business has a lot of social media sites, like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, be sure to post different things on each of these sites. Utilize the strengths and weaknesses of each of these pages. Repeating the same information over and over again can get robotic and people may decide to only follow you on one of these social media sites instead of them all.

3)    Have a Goal

A huge mistake that businesses make when using social media is that they use it with no particular goal in mind. What is your purpose or objective? Are you trying to get people to buy a product? Are you trying to advertise an event? Focus on your goal and use it as fuel for your posts. Mention any special offers you have and where people can get them. Engage with other people who may also be interested in what you are saying. Be sure to always have your goals in mind and track what has been working the best for your business.

4)    Talk About Related Topics

Say you are selling makeup and all you keep posting about is your product, people may lose interest over time. Be creative and talk about other topics that relate to makeup, too. For example, you can post about fashion, hair, accessories, nails, etc. People who are interested in makeup are likely to also be interested in these related subjects. This is a great way to start conversations and to spread the word about your product without overselling it.

5)    Follow Up With Comments

If you comment on someone’s Instagram photo and think that is enough, think again. It is important to always follow up with any comments that relate back to what you said. Someone may ask you a question about your product or even just reply with a comment back, and it is important to be aware of that. Following up with comments shows that you care about what other people have to say. Being the last to comment, even with a simple thank you can also go a long way.

Keeping these tips in mind can help you manage your social media better and allow you to engage with your audience in a more professional manner.
